Zack Snyder revealed that he is also developing a new adaptation of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead (that’s the one about architect Howard Roark), based on Rand’s screenplay for the 1949 movie starring Gary Cooper. Such a film is most likely at least a few years away from getting made (if it ever does), since most of Snyder’s time in the next few years will be devoted to Justice League Part One (11/17/17) and Justice League Part Two (6/14/19).

The director went from working on Man Of Steel straight into Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while he’s also due to direct Justice League: Part One and Justice League: Part Two. That means that he'’ll have spent the best part of a decade entrenched in the superhero world. So it’s no surprise that Snyder is already looking to move away from the genre, and he’s now revealed that he plans on adapting one of the most famous books of all time, Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead.

Snyder is fighting an uphill battle. The three previous attempts to bring an earnest version of Ayn Rand to the big screen resulted in a scattered and cheap trilogy of Atlas Shrugged features that were critically panned and made very little money. The series was so unsuccessful that the producer required a Kickstarter campaign to complete the third film, which is very much counter to the Do-It-All-Yourself-and-Screw-Everyone-Else philosophies espoused by Rand.

Libertarians are a small but increasingly vocal political group in this country, and Ayn Rand has re-entered the cultural conversation in recent years, largely thanks to the notorious Atlas Shrugged movies. We shall see if Snyder is seen to do the work justice or not.

Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has only a week to go before it hits theaters, but that hasn’t stopped the director from discussing possible future projects. From what we know so far, it might be the first George Washington biopic ever made — or it might be an adaptation of author Ayn Rand’s first successful novel, The Fountainhead.

Rand’s novel was previously adapted into the 1949 King Vidor film of the same name that starred Gary Cooper, Patricia Neal and Raymond Massey, however the movie received mostly negative reviews upon its release, and it failed to make back its production budget of $2.5 million. And although Rand wrote the screenplay and her reaction to the big screen take on her book was initially positive, the author later criticized several aspects of the film.

We’ll have to wait and see if Snyder is developing the project as a potential directing gig or producing vehicle…
